Recently, facing the situation of soaring catfish price in domestic and international market and strong sales, two large-scale aquaculture enterprises — No.1 Poyang Lake Fishery Co., Ltd and Poyang County Lvsheng Agriculture & Forestry Ltd (Bintian Reservoir breeding base) change the original cold attitude to catfish cultivation. In order to expand the scale of catfish breeding, two firms contact our company one after another to discuss the cooperation plan for catfish breeding.
As the major business of Jiangxi Branch Company, catfish cultivation was developed in a tough way. At 2004, the company was still in the early stage of development. In order to compensate the seasonal gap of crayfish production and extend the production cycle, the company started to develop catfish breeding industry. Under the support of breeding subsidies from the local government and technologies and funds from the mother company, the catfish breeding industry was developed very quickly within just a few years. At 2007, the industry scale had reached an annual output of 3000tons of adult fishes. Economic benefits were gratifying. In 2008, companies and aquatic farmers were gearing up for a big action. However, the unexpected global finical crisis arrived. Catfish prices plunged, sales dropped and then catfish industry slid into a two-year decline. Companies and aquatic farmers suffered heavy losses. During that tough time, in order to maintain the continuity of the industry and encourage farmers to continue the development of catfish breeding, our company increased the funding support. These efforts minimized risks for farmers and retained several good breeding bases. But the total cultivating output dropped below an annual output of 1,000tons.
Along with the quick rebound of domestic catfish market at second half year of 2010, catfish industry ended the passive situation which sales only relied on export market. The industry achieved the synchronization of the market development both in domestic and international market and balanced these two markets. From the market level, this positive situation relieved enterprises’ and farmers’ worry and stimulated farmers’ enthusiasm for production.

Up to the end of July, No.1 Poyang Lake Fishery Co., Ltd has raised more than 3,000,000pcs fries and planed to produce 800-1,000tons adult fishes; Poyang County Lvsheng Agriculture & Forestry Ltd (Bintian Reservoir breeding base) has raised more than 2,000,000pcs spray fries, planed to produce 500-600tons adult fishes and continued to invest according to the real breeding situation.
